What a wonderful weekend Majella and I had in Brisbane at Market Trends - not only were we going to say hello to old and new friends but it is always nice to get out of town for an adventure - yes family I still love you all!
So off to Brisbane we set and as you know (earlier post) I had a lovely evening meal with the team from Moda and of course I got to meet Camille Roskelley and her best friend Holly Inez - gorgeous, sweet girls. Camille had to get her very first passport for the trip to Australia and Holly couldn't believe that it was so far.... Welcome to Australia girls.
On the first evening of Market Trends we were spoilt with the amounts of quilts that Camille brought with her for show and tell - no room for clothes - we know exactly what she is talking about! Born in Idaho and now a resident of Las Vegas Camille started her quilting journey at the age of five so she comes from a pioneer heritage of stitching from her mother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She attended her first Quilt Market in St Louis at the age of 14 and back then fabric wholesalers came to market with bolts of fabrics and you came along and cut your fabric off the bolt and took it home with you - sample spree with scissors - can you imagine! Let me at them....
Camille studied Architectural Design and spent several Summers working on a boat in Nantucket. Her first quilt was made with traditional colours of Hunter Green, Maroon and Mustard and to this day she is still in love with it - and she laughs as she shares with us that it was quilted in black thread. Haven't we all been there.....
Off course from there she has found her place in the world of fabrics and quilts - she has a passion for clean, simple quilts which has made her a favourite of quilters around the world. Her favourite quilt - Swoon. Of course! One tidbit from home was to make sure that she shared with us all that her lovely husband took the photos for her book covers - it may not have been smooth sailing but there you go - a truly talented family.
I hope you enjoy some of Camille's quilts....
Red Letter Day - Raincheck & Niner
Camille was part of a quilt-a-long with Lissa Alexander from Moda
This quilt holds a special place in Camille's heart as it is built from left over blocks, favourite fabrics and parts of baby blankets from her sons - tears fell as she took us on it's journey.......
This quilt didn't belong to Camille but was hanging for the weekend with award ribbons from the 2013 Brookfield Show - it is of course "On a Whim"
Another quilt-a-long was Spell it With Moda. If you would like to make this quilt come and join us for a Spell it With Moda Sunday - info in classes section of blog.
Before Camille left home she received some gorgeous bags to accompany her on her visit to Australia
Amy Butler's Weekender bag complete with Camille's Spools .....and from another friend the Sew Together Bag with Camille's Red Letter Day mini block - (hidden inside were Tim Tam's...sshhh)
So after a big day at Market Trends it was home to our City Hotel - Majella did a great job choosing - we stepped out onto our balcony and a view of the Story Bridge - so pretty all lit up at night and in the other direction was the city
The next morning we were off to the Eagle Farm Markets......stay tuned
